1 Week Old

Well, it's been a little over a week and the unthinkable happened...she got even more cute!!!

We're amazed at how much she has changed in such a little time despite both of us being accustomed to seeing babies in the clinical setting. They change a great deal between the 1st week and the 1 month visits but we continue to be awed by how our Palomita changes every day. We count our blessings for how wonderful she is!

All of us are so very thankful for your generosity and for sharing in this important adventure that we recently began. We'll try to have something up each week (ideally every Wednesday) so you can see how we all grow during the next weeks, months and years.

It's a GIRL!!!...Paloma Teresa Harker

Paloma Teresa Harker was born on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 10:12 am...She weighed in at 7 lbs 6 oz and was 19 in. Long...and most importantly, she's beautiful, healthy and a wonderful blessing!

The excitement of finding out that she was a girl at the delivery was well worth the wait and gave us a feeling we'll never forget. Trini is doing well and recovering nicely from her C-section and is a wonderful mother. We're very thankful that nursing is going well (with a little help from our wonderful nurse Ann)...Paloma seems to have inherited the Harker appetite. Fortunately, she got Trini's good looks...her lips, nose, forehead...we're still tring to figure out whose hair she'll have (we're hoping for Trini's!) We have no clue where her cute chin came from!

Paloma means dove in Spanish...Coincidentally after we told Trini's Aunt Judy the good news she informed us that Trini's foster grandmother's name, Taube, is Yiddish for dove.

Travis is a great help and it seems that he has learned at the very least how to calm babies, swaddle them and change their diapers during the course of his residency...so the long hours appear to have paid off! (but he still looks tired...I wonder why?!?)

We're also fortunate to have Abuelita (Trini's Mom) and Nana (Travis' Mom) out for the delivery...they helped us out tremendously with Paloma and helped care for the cats while we were in the hospital. Paloma appears happy to meet them as well!

Well, we're all a little tired but very very happy. There is so much more to share but now is nap time for all of us so I'll have to write more later.

Dos Semanas to go...

2 weeks to go and it is still Hot!!! We enjoyed a recent visit from Trini's Hanover Mom Martha (and Roger) and are expecting one this weekend from Trini's Aunt Judy...as usual the pool is inviting and we're taking some time for R&R when we're not busy nesting. Both grandmas-to-be will be arriving to help in about a week and we're looking forward to their visits.
